ZBV X-Ray Screening Vans sold to the South African Police Force
Published: 2008
The South African Police Force has purchased the AS&E Z®BackscatterTM X-Ray screening vans for use within the borders of South Africa. To date, these Vans have already been instrumental in crime busts in excess of R10M. The ZBV is a low-cost, mobile X-Ray screening system which is built into a commercially available delivery van. The police can use the ZBV's for screening vehicles, containers and other cargo for terrorist threats, trade fraud and contraband - simply by driving past the objects or targets. Glenn Cunningham, the Operations Director for Basix Smart Scanning Solutions together with three other members of Basix have been trained internationally by AS&E and provided full training to the police, who in turn have used and maintained the ZBV's. More detailed information with regard to the use and successes experienced by the police can not be divulged. However, over and above their crime busts, they are also using the vehicles to check cars on the side of the roads prior to dignitary visits.

SmartCheck personnel inspection system at AngloGold Ashanti
Published: 2008
AS&E have specialized in X-Ray scanning technology for over 20 years and Basix have found that the longevity of the systems to be paramount. As the recognized agents for AS&E in Africa, Basix Smart Scanning Solutions provides technical back up and support, as well and training, servicing and maintenance of all AS&E systems in Africa. Recently, the SmartCheck personnel inspection system at AngloGold Ashanti was repaired - this particular unit was purchased a number of years ago, and has proved time and time again to be a valuable asset to the organization as it provides highly effective, safe and non-invasive personnel screening. Current personnel inspection methods include a more invasive and time-consuming pat-down and strip searches. Technologies such as walk-through metal detectors can also miss organic threats, including ceramic knives, plastic guns and deadly explosives and are subject to false alarms.
